The Oceanogràfic celebrates its 9th anniversary with 12 euros tickets on the 11th and 12th of February Posted: 23 Jan 2012 05:02 PM PST The Oceanogràfic at the City of Arts and Sciences will be celebrating its 9th anniversary with tickets priced at €12 on the 11th and 12th of February 2012. On Tuesday the 14th of February, Europe’s largest aquarium will be nine years old, having welcomed 12 million visitors since it opened its doors to the public in February 2003. To celebrate the big day, on the 11th and 12th of February Europe’s largest aquarium will be offering visitors the opportunity to buy adult, children’s or seniors’ tickets at 12 euros each instead of the usual €24.90 or €18.80. Also, any children under 12 who come to visit the Oceanogràfic on either of those days dressed up as a marine animal will get free entrance to the aquarium. Over the course of these nine years, the Oceanogràfic has successfully positioned itself among the world’s major marine complexes. Among other things, it is notable for being the only aquarium in Spain in which the public can see species such as sea lions and beluga whales. It also undertakes research projects, such as the studies on the bioacoustics of cetaceans, and has highly successful programmes to boost reproduction in captivity. Over the years, the Oceanogràfic has witnessed the birth of more than a hundred sea mammals, cetaceans and reptiles, including seals, sea lions, bottlenose dolphins, penguins, grey sharks and pond slider turtles, as well as a large number of birds, such as the scarlet ibis, roseate spoonbill, cinnamon teal or black-necked swans. Alongside all this, the aquarium has incorporated new animals such as jellyfish, sea horses and sea dragons and the stunning luminous ctenophore, among many other species. This Valencian aquarium has also set up a wide-ranging programme of educational activities relating to marine sciences, including the “Tuesdays at the Oceanogràfic” lecture series, “Oceanogràfic Courses’, “Animalia Passport”, “Trainer for a Day” and “Sharks Encounter”.
