The Oceanogràfic’s Mar Rojo Auditorium of the City of Arts and Sciences hosts today Tuesday January 10 at 6 p.m. the lecture ‘Bids and tensions through around search on the high seas’, which will be given by Dr. Frederic Briand, General Manager of the Mediterranean Science Commission (CIESM) in Monaco, within the VIII Oceanogràfic’s Tuesdays.

The wealth of high seas are the aim of much greed due its commercial value and socio-economic importance. During the conference Dr. Frederic Briand will analyze who is the owner of these resources, where the areas of greatest international tension are, and what is the legal protection of the high seas against the risk of overexploitation.

This conference will illustrate various aspects of these emerging issues, with examples drawn from the exploitation of undersea mineral resources, the battle for the Arctic, whaling, and blue biotechnology and marine parks for peace.

This is the second lecture of the VIII Oceanogràfic’s Tuesdays that will be putting on conferences until next May led by professors, researchers and experts from national institutions with a proven record in issues relating to the human impact on the oceans, as well as on the opportunities for great discoveries that the exploration of the biodiversity provides.
