| THE CITY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES HOSTS A LECTURE ABOUT THE FUNGI WORLD Posted: 12 Dec 2011 06:38 PM PST Enrique Cerdá, professor of Genetics at the University of Seville, will be given today Wednesday 14, 7 p.m, at the City of Arts and Sciences, the lecture ‘Fungi to hallucinate’. This conference is given within the ‘True to Science’ cycle, sponsored by Cafés Lavazza. Among the different species of fungi are some of the organisms most sensitive to light, as el Phycomyces blackesleeanus. There are individuals who have sex at a distance, and are many industrial applications of fungi in food. Thus, the fungus Saccharomyces cerevisiae is the yeast that makes bread, wine or beer, among many other products. The specie Aspergillus niger produces citric acid and also we obtain other chemicals with the help of various fungi. On these and other curiosities will be talking Dr. Enrique Cerda, a disciple of Nobel Prize, Max Delbrück, a pioneer of molecular biology. ‘True to Science’ cycle is aimed to all those who are curious about science in general. For that reason the cycle has the participation of recognized scientists nationally and internationally as Marcus du Satoy, which highlight their math documentaries on BBC, Jacques-Marie Bardintzeff, among others. |
