REACT! CONTEST - CHEMISTRY PROJECT USING AUDIOVISUALS

Within the context of the activities scheduled by the Valencian Territory Section for celebrating the International Year of Chemistry, the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (RSEQ) and the City of Arts and Sciences had played an active role in this celebration. They have therefore decided to set up a contest to University and sixth-form students from all over Spain scientific and those from other training and educational courses at the Valencia Community to make an audiovisual presentation (lasting up to 10 minutes) describing a chemical process in an educational, creative and original way. Special attention is to be paid to those that have most clearly contributed to society's well-being and which are most illustrative and educational.

The winners are:

University Category

First Prize for the work 'The chemistry and the atmosphere. Problems and Solutions' by Jordi Casanova Mora and Pablo Gallegos Riera, Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona.

Finalists:

- 'Quimicortos', Irene Giménez Chasan. Faculty of Chemistry, Universidad de Valencia.

- 'Synthesis of ammonia', Oscar García Almazán. Faculty of Chemistry, Universidad de Valencia.

- 'Chemistry on the scene crime’, Alejandro Durante López and Ana Isabel García. Faculty of Chemistry, Universidad de Valencia.

High School and Vocational training Category

First prize for the work 'Chemistry for Life', by Lucia Matarredona and Marina Quiles. Colegio Sagrado Corazón HH. Maristas of Alicante

Finalists:

- 'Exothermic reactions' Elsa Martínez Montava, IES Serra de Mariola (Muro de Alcoy)

- 'The sound and light with chemistry, please!’ Llorenç Monferrer Pons, IES Professor Broch i Llop (Vila-Real).

Shark encounter

Diving among sharks in the biggest aquarium in Europe. Live an unforgettable experience and get to know these extraordinary creatures. On the dive, you will be surrounded by more than 1,350 specimens of 51 different species, outstanding among which are the impressive Sand Tiger Shark, Grey Reef Shark, Nurse Shark, Houndshark, Sawfish and Sunfish, among others.

Information and Bookings: 902 100 031

Dates: Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. It is necessary to book this activity at least seven days in advance.

Times: The activity begins with a preliminary talk and preparation for the dive (from 9 to 10:45 a.m.) The dive last some 40 minutes, from 10:45 to 11:30.

Fee: 300€ per dive. The Oceanogràfic of the City of Arts and Sciences will donate 10% of the income to shark research and conservation projects.

Public: Over 18 years old. Aimed at divers with a valid qualification (PADI, FEDAS, CEMAS, SSI, etc.) who have an accredited minimum of ten dives in their logbook.

Little Ones' Astronomy

Schoolchildren’s astronomy workshop (primary education, from the age of 6 up to 12). An activity that bring the knowledge of the astronomy and the cosmos to the students over a recreation form and didactic way.
