The City of Arts and Science host, for the first time in Europe, the Indiana Jones™ and the Adventure of Archaeology exhibition made possible by Lucasfilm Ltd., presented by the National Geographic Society and produced by Montreal’s X3 Productions.

The exhibition, which has been inaugurated by the Regional Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport, and President of the Board of Directors of CACSA, Lola Johnson, will remain in the Archways hall of the Science Museum Principe Felipe until next September 16, 2012.

Indiana Jones™ and the Adventure of Archaeology takes visitors from the fiction world known through movies to real events in the field of Archaeology. Equipped with a video companion, visitors will embark on a quest to uncover the true origins of archaeological mysteries.

This exhibition will feature fascinating artefacts from the National Geographic Society, the Penn Museum, and the Université de Laval (Quebec, Canada), along with an extensive collection of Indiana Jones film materials from the Lucasfilm Archives. The Penn Museum, is providing genuine archaeological artefacts and educational material and the National Geographic Society also shares artefacts, photos, videos and content from its impressive and historic archive.

There is a section of the exhibit we call the “Indy Trail” that highlights some of the most iconic Indy adventures from the films and includes objects, costumes, concept art, clips, etc. associated with each of those adventures. Dovetailing off that are our four archaeological zones in which our real-world objects and stories take center stage, and throughout the exhibit visitors can participate in a Interactive game searching the treasure.

A collection of gold artifacts from the Royal Cemetery at Ur, A series of beautifully decorated bowls and vessels from Nasca, the world's oldest known map, The world's oldest known evidence of wine-making, share the space with objects from the films like the Ark of the Covenant, a life-size sarcophagus from the Well of Souls, the remains of Francisco de Orellana, the costumes of the leading ladies of each Indy movie and of course the costume of Indiana Jones with his hat and whip.

Indiana Jones™ and the Adventure of Archaeology will elucidate myths associated with relics like the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail and explore mythical places such as Akator or Mayapore. The exhibition also will shed light on real archaeologists and their work such as deciphering ancient scripts and discovering the true origins of the mysterious Nasca lines in southern Peru.

This exhibition illustrates how the practice of archaeology evolves through time. Therefore, it features the work of archaeologists both past and present, following the lines of the scientific process: the quest, the discovery, the Investigation, the Interpretation.

Therefore, the exhibition show a space devote to local archaeology. This part of the exhibition, made possible through the collaboration of the Management of Cultural Heritage of the Tourism, Culture and Sport Departments, consists of pieces representing the cultures that have left archaeological remains along the Valencian Community: the Iberian, Roman and Medieval. Also, in order to have an overview of the whole region each period is represented through a town, in this case Elche, Sagunto and Segorbe.
