GERARDO CAMPS: " 'THE ONE TOY, ONE DREAM' CAMPAIGN MAKES THE RIGHT TO PLAY IN CHILDHOOD A REALITY"

Posted: 27 Mar 2011 05:55 PM PDT

CACSA’s financial vice-president and chairman of the Board of Directors, Gerardo Camps, today reiterated the Valencian Government‘s commitment to the ‘One Toy, One Dream' campaign', which “makes the right to play a reality in countries where it is not so easy." The City of Arts and Sciences has been participating in this “for eleven years now, and we are satisfied and proud of this because we share aims involving education and solidarity.”

Gerardo Camps made these statements after the signing of cooperation agreements for the 12th edition of the "One toy, one dream" solidarity campaign, sponsored by the City of Arts and Sciences and organized by RNE and the Crecer Jugando (Grow Up while Playing) Foundation. He also thanked these entities for the work they do, as well as the NGOs that are participating.

Gerardo Camps stated that the City of Arts and Sciences "is a place for culture, leisure and learning, and by participating in a campaign like this we get children to learn while playing or to play while learning, which is very important."

The financial vice-president emphasised the values of cooperation and solidarity in the campaign, which is also "a stimulus for children in disadvantaged countries to attend school where they know they can find the toys that are sent." He also pointed out that through this initiative the toy sector in the Valencia Community region continues to manufacture outside the usual months.

Record of 520,000 toys

The main aim of the "One toy, one dream" campaign is for children to receive the toys and moreover be able to use them for a long time. The initiative is based on the sale of a product - the solidarity pen, the proceeds from which are used to send toys to developing countries and non-governmental organizations that work in cooperation and aid projects for children.

HRH the Infanta Elena is the initiative’s honorary president, and 98 entities collaborate with it, including companies and institutions from the public and private sectors. The eleventh campaign ended with record proceeds of 3,320,528 euros. This will enable 520,000 toys to be distributed among 21 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Since 2000, the "One toy, one dream" campaign has enabled children to play with toys in over 40 countries. Thanks to support from society, it has sent about 4,000,000 toys for individual use and has provided 1,600 play areas where children can grow up and share games and toys.
